Tree Planting In Florida
If you’re looking to plant a tree that is native to Florida on your property, consider the Florida State Palm, also known as the Cabbage or Sabal Palm. This is a popular tree choice in the Florida area and a favorite of many homeowners. The plant material of the Sabal Palm thrives in the Florida climate, and is able to endure hurricane conditions quite well, it also requires very little maintenance.
In Florida, when contractors plant new palm trees, they usually arrive with hardly any root structure, hurricane cut, and root pruned straight out of the field. The tree may come with a larger root, however.
If you decide to plant this tree, note that when it arrives it can appear surprisingly dry. But don’t worry, after planting, the tree should have a full canopy of leaves within a year. Normally a landscaper will prune all the leaves off so there is no transpiration soon after it’s planted, to avoid stressing the tree too much. This tree is perfect for Florida’s hurricane prone climate because it takes a lot to knock it down - it is one of the highest wind resistant trees in Florida and the most planted in the state.
